About Chris
I’ve been a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the state of California since March 2011. But that doesn’t even begin to tell the whole story. My dad, William P. Koch, CPA, started the family business in 1980, so this is much more than just a random job for me. I’ve been working in some capacity alongside my dad just about forever and I’ve learned the business inside and out and sideways. When I was a kid I used to come in to weigh organizers and lick envelopes; and later, I would use my vacation days as an auditor during tax season to get a little extra experience. Now, that’s commitment!
And that’s the vibe I put out there when we work together: I’m committed to you and your tax needs. I’m all about building relationships, and creating a mutual sense of trust––after all, the name of my position is Trusted Advisor. And, let’s face it, taxes and tax planning aren’t the sexiest thing in the world. So if you can walk in here, know that you’ve been taken care of, and then walk out saying, “I feel good about what we just did and I’ll see you next year,” then I can sleep at night.
The value I deliver to you comes in two main buckets: I explicitly know a lot about tax code and how to file returns. That much you’d expect, right? And I also make myself very accessible. I do my best to create a personable and inclusive atmosphere when we work together, so that you don’t get stressed out or scared about having to navigate all this tax stuff. I like it just fine and all, but it doesn’t mean I expect you to get excited about it. And I’d rather create a friendly environment than a stiff one because, really, the alternative for you is to go deal with the IRS. Talk about stiff!
The next few years will be a transition here at the firm. Dad’s getting close to retirement, and I’m taking over. My primary goal is to make the transition as seamless as possible. I have over five years of auditing experience for the State and I’m always taking continuing professional education courses to stay on top of the ever changing taxation landscape. I can say with confidence that I know my taxes.
I have the benefit of succeeding my dad in the family business. He has built a sterling reputation and a successful practice filled with satisfied clients. I look forward to continuing that fine tradition as we enter into this new era of the firm.
